To fulfill its mission, Coaching for Development aims to prepare and conduct on site workshops and activities in selected developing countries.
In September 2010 three of the team members – the C4D project manager Daniel Collado-Ruiz of Young Crew Spain, Andreas Beck of Young Crew Germany, Saad Hegazy of Young Crew Egypt and Nino Grau of IPMA – arrived to Kathmandu to spend 5 days training local project managers and social entrepreneurs in project management comptenences. The training days were filled with workshops covering a wide range of topics: IPMA project management competences and certification, intercultural awareness, business planning, workshop organization, creativity, teamwork, etc. Coaching and real-time interaction with participants with regard to their projects and professional concerns constituted a significant part of the workshop. The participants were also given space to network and connect amongst each other.
C4D workshop has definetely contributed to the promotion of project management competences and knowledge in Nepal, affecting not only individuals but also organizations that they work for. Participants felt inspired to stay connected and develop their knowledge further, through networking, workshops and active involvement in the life of IPMA. One of the tangible outcomes of this was the creation of Young Crew Nepal – a living community of young project management practitioners. Basing on this, we as C4D team can testify that project management movement in Nepal will expand and grow.
Having conducted our first event, we feel proud and complete with the work we have done and enthusiastically look into the future. The lessons we derive from this experience in Nepal point to the importance of team work, close collaboration with the local team, importance of thorought planning in the areas of finances and content preparation.
In the future we want to direct our efforts at updating the C4D website and developing a sustainable follow-up structure that would allow workshop participants to stay in touch with the C4D team and continue to benefit from coaching and knowledge sharing.
We are looking forward to our 2011 and/or 2012 event and are considering several possible locations: Egypt, South Africa and Guatemala. Once the core team of C4D is defined and the intention for the next year is clear, we will immediately start being in action of our commitment to collaboration, knowledge sharing and development.
This is really an interesting idea. I look forward to it.
